"True relationship with God overcomes Long Distance Relationship"
Brother Manuel Almanzor
I'm an Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW) for 10 years, my wife who was my girlfriend at that time was strongly opposed with my plan to work overseas. She didn't want me to move abroad because we had heard many stories of relationships falling apart as a result of separation. I still followed ahead with my plan because of financial difficulties in our family and I found employment in Singapore. We kept in touch constantly, and I made sure to visit her and my family once every three to six months to maintain our strong relationship and communication. It was very difficult to be away with her, we struggled, and we had major quarrels as well. It is true that long distance relationship is very challenging, we are just grateful to God for sustaining us and allowing us to survive the ten years long distance relationship.
Moving forward, five years ago God planted a seed in our heart. Even though we were not Christians back then but God made sure that the seed would develop and He would encounter us at the right time. We set goals for our family on September of 2018. My wife assisted me in setting goals for us and she even framed it, and I told myself I would allow myself five years to complete those goals.
Honestly, I totally forgot the goals that we made and kept the frame in the box. The goals that we set besides for “My Family will be reunited in Australia in the year 2023” were earthly desires such as to be a millionaire, to be successful in our careers and to be rich. One goal that caught my attention when I was rereading it was the goal number five, "To have a Christ centered life, family and marriage" that goal was the seed that God planted in our heart.
I was amazed that even though we don't know Him back then, we were longing for His presence in our life, we're longing for Him to be the center of our life, we wanted Him to lead our family and our marriage and I was longing for a father. Now I am just grateful knowing that He is my father and everyday I will have a chance to know Him more and serve Him.
He is really faithful, our God is a faithful God! He did not just allow us to encounter Him, He even fulfilled our first goal "To be with my lovely wife and Family in Australia on the year 2023" not in Australia though but we will be together as a family in Canada. I am always reminded of this verse (Genesis 2:18 Then the Lord God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper who is just right for him)." for the men, God won't allow us to be alone, it is his design for us to be united with our wife.
Let's just trust Him, trust his timeline and trust His plans for us. All glory and honor belongs to Him.
